The logic behind Offline Files is very simple. When we mark a folder for offline cache, Offline Files copies all the files from the network share and stores them on the local disk.

When the machine is disconnected from the network, Offline Files detects it and forwards all file access requests to the local copy. Try out this Create a folder in My Documents, copy all of mapped drive folders and files to it. Then set the new folder in My Documents for sync and offline. Change something on the server side and test it. This would attempt to sync only ur folders and files and not the whole drive.

I have several users that use offline files in Windows 7 that are having issues. Here is what happens; Users home directories are located on a Win2k3. Over the summer hols I installed new W7 pcs in two suites and rebuilt/upgrade two XP suites to W7 We had an issue with some pupils unable to access their home folders (network drives were fine) I found that if I disabled Offline Files in Sync Centre this resolved the issue on the older PCs that were upgraded. But, on the brand new PCs, the 'Disable Offline Files' button is greyed out - How do I re-enable this button? Seems weird that it was greyed ou on some PCs but not others? Is there a reg key that will re-enable it? They may not seem immediately relevant, but you need the following hotfixes to tcp/ip, smb, csc, user profile service, and group policy preferences to have a hope of windows 7 working as advertised. (on your management workstation only) And everything for your clients and server from: I'd also recomend the latest TCP/IP Hotfix above to be installed on the server as there is a latency bug fix included that helps client offline files not make the wrong decisions about the network state.

Is there a reg key that will re-enable it? CheersI was also having this issue with new Windows 7 PC's but then realised I had automatically joined them to my domain as part of our setup procedure. Once I removed them from the domain and logged in as Administrator the 'Disable Offline Files' button was no longer greyed out. Then rejoin them to your domain and your good to go.
